Whare Manaaki - a 42 unit complex - was completed in May, after over three years planning. The property is leased by MHUD from private developer SOHO for a 25 year period, during which time TCHT is contracted to manage the facility. It comprises of 1 and 2 bedroom units designed for singles and couples, in particular older people and people with mobility challenges.
Seven one-bedroom units were completed in Te Puke in July, custom built for our tenants and leased to TCHT for a minimum of ten years. Operational support for this lease is provided by Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MHUD).
In May, TCHT completed 12 new one-bedroom homes in Gate Pa, with help from a generous $500,000 grant from TECT. The balance of the project was funded by favourable loan arrangements with Bay Trust and ongoing operational support from MHUD. All units are designed to be accessible to Lifemark 3 standard. Several tenants required level entry homes as they have mobility challenges.
We built 14 one-bedroom units as part of a special housing accord development with Classic Builders. All these units are fully accessible, and have a communal seating and bbq area, giving residents a place to gather. This development was funded with grants from TECT and BayTrust, and commercial loans.
In 2015, TCHT purchased Whakatane District Council’s pensioner housing stock consisting of 72 one-bedroom units in Whakatane and seven in Murupara to keep as social housing for the elderly of Whakatane. In 2020 the decision was made to sell the Murupara units to local iwi who were better located to provide a social tenancy service. We continue to upgrade this housing to ensure we are providing a suitable accommodation in line with our clients’ needs.
In 2013 we designed and built 14 one and two-bedroom units with Classic Builders as part of a sustainable, secure village that is functional for people of mixed ages and abilities. Half of the units are fully wheelchair accessible. This project was made possible with grants from MBIE and TECT, and a low interest loan from BayTrust. The balance was funded with a commercial loan.
